The PGA Tour will be heading to Wisconsin this week for the U.S. PGA Championship, which will be held at Whistling Straits in Kohler. The tournament is worth $5,100,000 and that means a world class field and some terrific golf. Last year, Y.E. Yang walked away with $918,000 and he'll be back again this year to defend his title. The tournament dates are August 12th through the 15th for the official rounds, and this is the 92nd year for this prestigious event. In the past, some very big names have walked away with the title to this tournament, including Padraig Harrington in 2008, Tiger Woods the year before that and in 2006 as well, and Phil Mickelson in 2005. In '04, Vijay Singh walked away with the money, and Shaun Micheel has also won this event. Others include Jack Nicklaus, Rich Beem, Mark Brooks, Steve Elkington, Nick Price and Jeff Sluman.

Let's talk about the course. Whistling Straits is located in Kohler, Wisconsin, and in one of only two golf courses associated with The American Club. The main course is the Straits Course, which is 7,514 yards long and is a Par 72. This tournament has hosted this tournament before in 2004, when Vijay Singh came out on top, and has also hosted the U.S. Senior Open. The course has also been named for the 2020 Ryder Cup. It was designed by Pete and Alice Dye, and has a course rating of 76.7. The other course at Whistling Straits is the Irish Course.

Don't forget that this tournament is also worth 600 FedEx Cup points, which means a lot to whoever wins the event. Right now, Ernie Els leads the pack in the FedEx Cup race, with 1,751 points while Steve Stricker is a close second with 1,575. Then, Jim Furyk comes in with a score of 1,545 points and takes the third spot while Justin Rose is in fifth place. The rest of the top ten for the FedEx Cup include Jeff Overton, Tim Clark, Matt Kuchar in sixth, seventh and eighth and then Ben Crane in ninth and Anthony Kim in tenth with 1,215 points.
